Welcome to Tattingstone Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School.
This is a family school where we hope every child will feel happy, safe and cared for. Our school is a fun and exciting learning place. We offer a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities in a close family atmosphere where each child is a valued member. We endeavour to offer security and guidance at an individual level and to be very aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each child. We aim to provide a calm and caring environment, conducive to learning and a quiet and well-organised work space for the children in each class.
The future development of the school will continue to take place within a nurturing Christian ethos, based on the following values and beliefs:-
*Caring for each other
*Sharing and being a family
*Honesty, trust and happiness
*Everyone is special
*Self-discipline and independence
*High expectations of achievements for everyone
*Working together creatively
*A broad, rich and exciting curriculum
This website has been set up to share information about our school and about the children's work with existing and prospective pupils, parents and friends of the school.
The school has adopted a Safeguarding Policy, which strictly adheres to current guidelines on protecting the welfare and safety of all the children under our care and meets the guidelines set by the local authority. A copy of this policy is available from the school office. We follow the recommended procedures where there may be issues regarding a child’s welfare and safety. Where necessary, it is our legal duty to assist other agencies with Child Protection/Safeguarding enquiries. Our Safeguarding Officer is Mrs Beverley Derrett, the Headteacher, Mrs Karen Bilner is the school’s Deputy Safeguarding Officer and our Safeguarding Governor is Mrs Beth Taylor.
We hope you will find it easy to navigate the pages, but if you have any questions which have not been answered, do contact us for further information or view our school prospectus in full on the Official Documents page of this site.
Tattingstone is a small village of about five hundred people, situated to the south of Ipswich. Children come to the school from both Tattingstone and Wherstead villages, and from outside our catchment area, from the neighbouring town of Ipswich or surrounding villlages.
The school has about eighty pupils on roll and is housed in a delightful Victorian building of flint and soft red brick dating from 1841. This, together with the adjacent school house and ‘Cabin’, offers a wide range of accommodation, including a separate art studio, technology out-building, early years unit, cookery and library areas. The school has both hard and grass play areas which retain the features of a friendly family garden. In addition to our own facilities we have use of the village playing field close by and the village hall for P.E., Dance and Drama.
The school has a very active, elected PTA and governing body. Both support the school in specific roles. The PTA organize both social and fund raising activities, which are well supported by families and staff. The governors meet regularly to discuss key issues about the safe and effective management of the school and are actively involved in school life and in monitoring and supporting our teaching.
The church and school work closely together, focusing on the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all members of the school community. Daily acts of collective worship and family assemblies are important forums for sustaining and developing the ethos of the school.
Our school council discusses, on a termly basis, the issues that are important to the various classes. We try to act upon children’s suggestions whenever possible.
We consider it important to work closely with all members of the school community - children, parents, staff, governors, the church and friends of the school.
